Project Description
This project evaluates two recent articles, within the last three months, about cybercrime and cybersecurity in the United States. I found one about Volvo employees and another at Nissan Motors.
Article 1
Brief Summary/Overview of the Article
Cybercriminals breached the data of 16,991 Volvo employees in the United States held in Conduent, an outsourcing company that manages the employees’ benefits and other HR services. The breach lasted from October 2025 to January 2026 before it was discovered and the system was locked down. Although no one has claimed responsibility, the attack is publicly linked to SafePay cybercriminals. Currently, there is no negative impact experienced from the breach.

Who was Affected: 16,991 Volvo employees.

Brief Summary/Overview of the Article
Some 900 GB of sensitive data from Nissan Motors Co. Ltd. was alleged to have been stolen by cybercriminals. The Everest cybercrime group who claimed responsibility showed evidence of the breach. Since it is still investigated, the status of the attack is not verified yet, but it is categorized as a cybercrime. The breach could impact operations, intellectual property, employee records, and customer information.

Lessons Learned
I learned that no organization in the world is immune from cyberattacks, and there is a concerted effort to overcome the perpetrators.
One of the most intriguing things I learned is that even AI could be a victim of cyberattacks.
