Digital Literacy & Foundations
Unit 1 focuses on foundations of digital literacy, hardware and networking, the web, and the cloud. It is like baby-steps into the computer and info tech world. It is delighting to see how my personal computer is configured, and how the individual parts interweave to commands.
My Accomplishments
In this unit I achieved the following:
Understand digital literacy and its seven categories, artificial intelligence (AI), what a computer is, files and folders, and how to share them, and the difference between the internet and the world wide web (www).
Complete the Digital Literacy Sorting of the seven categories with maximum points.
Complete my Digital Footprint Exploration, take notes in my notebook, and submit photos of the notes on Brightspace.
Start a new thread on the Discussion Board about Adventure # 3 on the Pick Your Digital Literacy Adventure.
Start a new thread on the Discussion Board about ‘Inside Your Computer.’
Complete the Hardware and Networking SIMpath with maximum points.
Complete the Web and the Cloud SIMpath with maximum points.
Complete Internet Browsers SIMpath with maximum points.
Update my notebook with Unit 1 Terms including the source of verification of each term and submit photos (attached below) on Brightspace.
Update ClassNotes, the digital file, with Unit 1 Terms underneath Unit 0 Terms and submit the file link on Brightspace.
Set up my ePortfolio and add details of Units 0 and 1 and submit the ePortfolio link on Brightspace.
Update my PC operating software from Windows 10 to Windows 11.
New Things I learned.
In this unit, I learned so much new things:
How to check out the configuration of a computer.
The interconnectivity of the different parts.
How to update operating software.
How to smartly buy a computer that fits one’s needs.
How to set an ePortfolio up on Google Sites, publish, and update it.
The history of the internet.
ChatGPT and Copilot.
How much of my personal information is out there on the internet.
Overall Takeaway
This unit is, so far, the richest part of the content I have seen in the course. It is wonderful how much literacy I now have about computers, the internet, the web, and the cloud. I never knew that I could even build a website.
