Mike Werner

I graduated from the City College of New York with a Liberal Arts Degree in 1973.

I joined the New Jersey Air National Guard  at the age of 34 (almost too old) as an E3 (had a college degree).  I wanted to serve my country before I got to old. Over my service carrier I was fortunate to have served in the Air Force National Guard, the Army National  Guard and Army Reserves (you go where the service sends you).

My first duty assignment was with the 108th Fighter Wing at McGuire Air Force base in New Jersey (1895 to 1993).

The 108th Wing is a unit of the New Jersey Air National Guard, one of the many units stationed at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey.  If activated to federal service, the Wing is gained by the United States Air Force Air Mobility Command.

I applied for Officer Candidate school but wat told I was to old.  I applied for Warrant Officer Training but the Air Force no longer had Warrant Officers. I therefore applied for Warrant Officer training in the Army and was accepted.  I attended Warrant Officer Candidate School at Ft. Rucker, Alabama.  I went from an E5 Sergeant to a Warrant Officer 1.

I was activated during Operation Enduring Freedom and shipped overseas to serve in Uzbekistan from June to December 2003.
