Captain Bruce B. Geibel, Civil Engineer Corps, United States Navy (Retired), was born in Washington, D.C., on August 18, 1942. He is the son of the late Captain Frank B. C. Geibel, MC, USNR, and Ruth Burgee Geibel, of Columbia, SC. He was in the U.S.A.F ROTC Program at Clemson University and enlisted into the Naval Reserve in March 1963 through the Reserve Seabee Division, Unit 6-3, in Greenville, SC.

 

  Captain Geibel received his bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Clemson University in May 1965. Having been selected to attend Naval Officer’s Candidate School, Newport, RI, he was commissioned an Ensign in the Civil Engineer Corps in March 1966. He received his Master of Science in Management from the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA, in December 1977. He is also a Material Professional (MP), Joint Specialist (JSPEC), Level 5, and Naval Warranted Contracting Officer.


  His first assignment in the U.S. Navy was in Naval Mobile Construction Battalion ELEVEN (1966-68), where he served as Assistant Operations Officer, Assistant Delta Company Commander and Alpha Company Special Project Officer during tours to DaNang, Dong Ha and Quang Tri, Republic of Vietnam (RVN).  He also served as Officer-in-Charge, Seabee Team 1109, in Chiang Kham, Thailand (1967).

He was subsequently assigned as Assistant Resident Officer in Charge of Construction (1968-69), Naval Air Station, in Norfolk, VA. He was then assigned to duty as Resident Officer in Charge of Construction, Project Ada-Beth-Cindy, in the United Kingdom (1969-70). He supervised construction of 15-microwave tower sites as part of the Washington-Moscow Hotline Project in Scotland & Northern Ireland.

 

  He then served as Assistant Public Works Officer, Naval Air Station, Atsugi, Japan (1971-73), with subsequent public works duty at Naval Weapons Station and Polaris Missile Facility Atlantic, Charleston, SC (1973-76). Following a tour at the Naval Postgraduate School, he returned to Seabee duty as Executive Officer, Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 133 (1978-80). He completed overseas deployments to: Rota, Spain; Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico; and, Diego Garcia, in the British Indian Ocean Territory.

  Captain Geibel served as Facilities Advisor, Base Operations & Public Works, Technical Assistance Field Team, Saudi Naval Expansion Program, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (1980-82). He was subsequently assigned as Naval Staff Officer, Supreme Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), in Casteau, Belgium (1982-85). He was responsible for programming projects for all Allied Command naval bases and maritime airfields. Captain Geibel served as Director, Readiness Planning Division, Naval Facilities Engineering Command (1986) and Associate Comptroller for Military Construction, Naval Sea Systems Command (1987-88). He reported for duty as DCOS for Base Support/Logistics with Commander, Naval Forces Marianas, Guam (1988). He subsequently was assigned as Commanding Officer, Public Works Center, Guam, and Officer-in-Charge of Construction, Marianas (1989-91). He retired from the Navy in September 1991.

His military decorations include the Legion of Merit, Naval & Marine Corps Medal for Heroism, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, three Navy Meritorious Service Medals, Combat Action Ribbon, and the Vietnam Service Medal with Fleet Marine Corps Device & Five Battle Stars. His civilian recognition includes Outstanding Young Men of America (1970 & 1977); South Carolina Toastmaster of the Year (1976); Special Appointment by Governor George Busbee, Honorary Admiral, Georgia Navy, (1976); Toastmaster’s International Hall of Fame Recognition (1976); International Who’s Who of Professionals (1998 & 1999); & Princeton Premier Honors Edition Registry of World Leaders.  

Since his retirement from the U.S. Navy, he has completed civilian engineering and facilities management work for: the City of Hapeville; Emory University; the Robert W. Woodruff Arts Center; Member, Grounds & Landscape Committee, Carter Presidential Library, Atlanta, GA; NOVA Commercial Interiors; and the Pickens County Government in the greater Atlanta, Georgia area. He has also been involved in hurricane  disaster recovery efforts along the Gulf Coast and project manager work at Little Rock AFB for the BE&K Government Group, LLC, Birmingham, Alabama.

 

  Captain Geibel is married to the former Sandra Mary Fowler, an Air Force dependent, of Mobile, AL. They have two grown children, Eric and Lisa, a grandson, Gage, and granddaughter, Hadley. The Geibel’s reside in the community of Soleil in Canton, GA having lived there since October 2014.
