Europe uses Reference Soil Group (RSG)
Cambisols are the most widespread with Luvisols 2nd.,
Both found in all parts of Europe.

Podzols have similar area to Luvisols, but mainly concentrated in northern Europe. Leptosols, the 4th largest RSG on the contrary, have smaller shares in the northern regions.

Next most common: Chernozems = Mollisols in US

Whenever I say 'soil', I mean any of these soil sorts - a sort of conglomerate. Despite lots of variation, they house similar processes - to varying degrees, of course.
In the UK you can work out what sort of soil is under your feet. Use the UK Soil Observatory, Add 'Map layer' / Soil type/ World Reference Base (WRB colour Ref)
Around me, the main soil type is fluvisol (blue) along the River basin. However, my garden feels more like nearby gleysol (bluish-grey). This may have something to do with local construction companies and what they do with soil.
