Sohyunmun moves toward certain days, alongside Amu (meaning anyone in Korean), who asks how the birds are—until the gentle day that is a leap day. In this wintry season, saying hello to someone not well becomes a reason to gather—through exhibitions, readings, or simply the possibility of sharing. Five artists meet each other’s gaze. Sometimes, to see is to comfort those who’ve lost their voice—and to open up a gathering for those who still seek to speak. We wait for a day when you might join us here, as Amu continues to ask after the birds.
During the days of this exhibition, time splits itself—into a first stanza and a second—at the moment when the poetry of a slowly fading girl is read aloud. Between si (示, see), si (詩, poem), and si (時, time), the sound that lingers moves gently, claiming its right to exist. Only after silence do words return to the body—and arrive at a conversation that seeks to reproduce nothing at all.
The books on this shelf, and the poems posted on the walls, quietly share the remaining words with someone else. In ripening nights, texts, sculptures, paintings, photographs, and readings reach toward curled-up images —just beyond the edge of the bookshelf, just behind the wallpaper. Each of them is a movement—somewhere between a walk and a voyage.
