Former Graduate Students

Joahana Segundo, MA

Joahana Segundo received her MA in Psychology from the University of Houston in Summer 2023. She now works as a Project Manager of Research in the Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation at Arizona State University. She is currently involved in research focusing on the well-being of former dementia caregivers, drawing upon her experience and expertise in health psychology.

Meisam Vahedi, PhD

Meisam Vahedi received his PhD in Social, Health, and Personality Psychology from the University of Houston in Fall 2022. He is now a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign. Broadly, he studies close relationship functioning and the strategies people may apply to buffer against threats to psychological needs. In one line of research, he examines how attachment orientations and personality characteristics influence relationship functioning. In another line of research, he studies the negative effects that threats to belonging needs (e.g., rejection, exclusion) may impose on mental and physical health and the possible ways (e.g., using symbolic social bonds) to mitigate adverse effects.

David Wittkower, PhD

David Wittkower received his PhD in Social/Health Psychology from the University of Houston in Summer 2022. He is now a postdoctoral fellow at the Health Professions Education Evaluation & Research, Center for Innovations in Quality, Effectiveness and Safety, Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center. His current research interests include education efficacy and evaluation, methodology, and training and curriculum development.

Sana Haddad, PhD

Sana Haddad received her PhD in Social/Health Psychology from the University of Houston in Summer 2021. Her dissertation was titled, "The indirect effect of stress on individual and relational outcomes through couple interactions." Dr. Haddad is now an Evaluation Specialist at Mental Health America of Greater Houston. She works with the Center for School Behavioral Health to identify and prevent behavioral and mental health issues within the school system. She can be reached at sanahad90@gmail.com.

Maggie Britton, PhD

Maggie Britton received her PhD in Social/Health Psychology from the University of Houston in Summer 2021. Her dissertation was titled, "The Impact of Microaggressions on Alcohol Consumption and Alcohol-Related Problems Among Latinx Community Members and College Students." Dr. Britton works as a Project Manager for a program called Taking Texas Tobacco Free, a partnership between the University of Houston and Integral Care. She manages the day-to-day operations of several grants implementing tobacco-free workplaces and tobacco-related training programs in behavioral health centers across Texas. Zachary Baker, PhD

Dr. Baker’s career is devoted to understanding former dementia caregivers so he can help them garner the psychosocial resources and technological tools to thrive. A methodologically uninhibited researcher, Dr. Baker enjoys digging into complex quantitative data, nuanced qualitative data, and rich theory alike. Paramount in his research are community ties: those with lived experience oversee and advise his work to ensure it addresses the needs of former dementia caregivers. He is an assistant professor at the Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation at Arizona State University.  He can be reached at zachbaker@asu.edu.

Xiaoyi Shao, PhD

Shao joined the Social Processes Lab at University of Houston as a visiting research scholar in 2020. She received her Ph.D. in Social Psychology from Xi’an Jiaotong University (China) in Summer of 2023. Her current research focuses on close relationships, loneliness & isolation, and internet/social media behavior and its impacts.
