Discover E Girl Day – Introduce a Girl to Engineering

CIE-SoCal hosted 2018 DiscoverE Girl Day – Introduce a Girl to Engineering during the National DiscoverE Engineers Week on February 22, 2018 at a coastal junior high school (Rolling Hills Preparatory School) and an inland university (University of California, Riverside), helping focus a growing movement to inspire girls’ futures so they learn they have a place in engineering a better world. The events were arranged for girls (Grade 6–8) from local communities in Southern California to introduce them to an exciting engineering journey, by presenting a featured movie on engineering preliminaries, inviting female engineers for sharing their experiences, as well as getting involved in interesting activities/experiments as suggested by DiscoverE.

Paint The Future

This year marked the second anniversary of our implementation of the Paint the Future Event into action. The goal of the program is to encourage children to engage in science, technology, art, engineering and math. This is done by introducing an artistic medium for the students to express themselves through art.

CIE/USA National Council Fall Meeting

CIE-SoCal hosted the CIE/USA National Council (NC) Fall Meeting on October 14, 2018 at Holiday Inn Diamond Bar, California. On the day before the NC meeting, CIE-SoCal arranged a tour to Vitagliano Winery at Temecula. About fifteen NC representatives attended the tour and had great time enjoying a variety of wine and the natural beauty of vineyards and the historical old town Temecula. On the evening, most NC representatives celebrated CIE-SoCal Annual Convention with SoCal members and guests. As usual, the NC meeting agenda included reports from NC officers, local chapters, SATEC, METS and AAEOY committees. Two subcommittees, Financial Operation Committee and Program Development Committee also gave reports. It was decided NC will resume the yearbook starting 2018 after being discontinued for years. A NC Forum - CIE/USA Challenges and Opportunities was held with NC advisors leading the discussion.
