Program Overview:

CIE-SOCAL promotes STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) excellence by sponsoring an annual STEM Competition focused on presentation skills and communication. The presentation material shall represent a body of STEM work accomplished, by an individual or team, that was integrated with school supported studies.  The STEM presentations will consist of a 10 minute talk followed by questions from the judges and audience.  The competition will be organized into two groupings, high school students and college students (undergraduate and graduate). Each category will have a first place winner ($300), a second place winner ($200), and a third place winner ($100). If any competition grouping isn’t adequately populated, the CIE-USA/SOCAL Awards Committee reserves the right to reduce the number of winners.  We also invite students to prepare a poster of their research where each participant will have an opportunity to present their poster on an individual basis.  One poster winner will be selected for each category and awarded ($100).   All winners will be invited to join the 2015 CIE-SOCAL annual convention and award ceremony (date to be confirmed).

This year’s STEM competition will be a part of the 2015 Asian American Engineer of the Year (AAEOY) Award program, hosted by CIE-USA.  STEM competition participants are invited to join the AAEOY Technical Symposium in the afternoon with keynote speaker, Dr Shuji Nakamura (2014 Nobel Prize of Physics Laureate & 2015 AAEOY Distinguished Science & Technology Award recipient), and the 14th Annual National AAEOY Award Ceremony in the evening.   For more information on the 2015 AAEOY program, please refer to www.aaeoy.org.
