In this animation, I show my process including the video I created as reference.
Character model not by me.
Other animations done both in 3DS Max and Maya.
Created & animated a horse rig in 3DS Max.
During my undergrad studies, I was lucky enough to have an independant study with my professor to focus on more complex and customized rigs for animation and posing. Using a provided model of his character, Cosmo, I created controllers on all key parts of the rig.
The more notable controllers include the hip rings, with the outer ring allowing up and down movement but keeping the feet locked and grounded, while the inner ring allows the same movement but keeps the hands locked in place as well.
The controls on the hands allow for a variety of movement. The small sphere above each hand's palm can be moved up and down the arm to open and close the hand, or side to side to change how the fingers curl (with the fingers closer to the controller curled in more).
This is my animation made in Autodesk Maya about a wizard getting his spell book to try a new recipe, to only find out he added the wrong ingredient, causing a poof of a small explosion.
