Established in 1966, the General Insurance Association of Singapore (GIA) is the general insurance industry’s trade association whose membership comprises 37 Ordinary Members licensed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) to transact general insurance business in Singapore.
As a Trade Association, GIA works to make all aspects of insurance easier and more effective for consumers, agents and insurance companies in Singapore. It helps identify emerging trends and responds to issues affecting the General Insurance industry and seeks to promote the overall growth and development of the sector in Singapore.

Kai Weng joined GIA as the COO in April 2016 and took over as CE in August 2017. Before joining the association, he worked for different segments of the insurance value chain:
- an insurance and reinsurance broker
- an insurer
- a corporate insurance buyer
His responsibilities in these past roles included managing the operations and regulatory compliance of JLT’s Specialty insurance business in Asia, strategy and operations of 6 Southeast Asian countries, acquisitions, business transformation, insurance underwriting, managing corporate insurance programmes, enterprise risk management, corporate treasury and investment management.
His educational background is in accounting, finance and laws. He is a CFA Charterholder and a Chartered Accountant of Singapore.
