Q: What should I wear to the conference?
A: Please wear business casual! We understand if you are unable to come in a full suit, but please wear at least a dress shirt, and try your best to wear a tie, blazer, and dress pants.
Q: What should I bring to the conference?
A: Please bring a laptop/iPad with all of your prepared notes, as well as a portable charger if you wish. You may choose to bring some money for the vending machine or if you wish to eat at nearby restaurants after the event is over.
Q: What is Model UN?
A: Model United Nations is an educational simulation of real UN (United Nations) bodies and other organizations. You, the "delegate", will represent the interests and ideas of the country/person you were assigned, and debate other delegates on your committee topic.
Q: What do I do during SLSSMUN?
A: At the start of the committee session, your dais teams will explore the Rules of Procedure (ROP) with you, and ensure you at least somewhat understand ROP. After this, your committees will enter debate, where you will use your prior research to defend your country's interests and fight for what your country believes in.
Q: How can I prepare for SLSSMUN?
A: Our biggest tip for you would be to read our background guides, found in your respective committees tabs. You can also choose to conduct external research about the topic, which can be done on sites such as Wikipedia, Youtube, and Encyclopedia Britannica!
Q: Will food be provided at the conference?
A: We will be serving pizza and drinks during dinner time!
Q: What prizes will there be for the winners?
A: The "Best Delegate" (1st Place) in each committee will receive a physical gavel, and the top 3-4 delegates in each committee will be recognized with awards, which go as follows:
1st Place - Best Delegate
2nd Place - Outstanding Delegate
3rd Place - Honourable Mention
4th Place - Best Researched
