Phase 1

The following is an in-depth guide for the first area of Metroid II: Return of Samus.

Welcome to Metroid II: Return of Samus! The first thing you have to do is head right. Keep heading right until you reach a dead end where you have to go down. Go down, roll under the ceiling and go up and go to the right to enter another shaft. Go down until you reach a little mound, then keep heading left. Eventually there's a downward shaft you can go in and then another part left. Near the end of this left way hallway, there's gonna be your first metroid, so prepare and make sure you are at a high health level before fighting it. During some fights with Alpha Metroids, you can get half of it to go over a ledge and half of it to stay on the ledge. Here you can shoot it with 5 missiles bellow to kill it. Here, there's just a metroid, so jump in the air to have it go towards you and then keep shooting at it from below. Once you kill it, go to the left and up onto the ledge. To the right wall on this ledge if you get inside you can get a health and missile heal pool. Next, go back all the way to the big mound you found that you dropped on near the beginning. Head right, save, and keep heading right doing down when you can to enter phase 2.
