Special Cup

The following is an in-depth guide for the special cup of Mario Kart 64.

DK Jungle Parkway

This track has a main path in it. If you go off of this path into the offroad, then coconuts from the trees will shoot at you, bumping you back on the track, slowing you down. If you have a mushroom though, you can boost into the offroad to take shortcuts. There's a huge jump in the middle of the track that you'll have to worry about. Right after it, you have to turn 90 degrees to the left, so you should hold R, A, and left to go that direction. You can aim more to the left on the jump, but the turn will take you into the offroad. Near the end, there's a section in a cave. If you have a mushroom, you can use it into the cliff to the left of the top left item box. You can push tighter, but too tight and you fall downwards.

Yoshi Valley

This track has a ton of branching paths in the middle of it. A good path through this is to slow down a bit, go left across the thin bridge, then go forward and turn right. If the thin bridge is too hard for you, or you don't want to deal with the spikes that show up later in the track, then you can turn right before this and then turn left and follow this path. Near the end, there's a part with a spinning yoshi egg that can squish you and slow you down. Try and avoid this as best as possible, you may have to stop and wait. If you fall down the pits, you will stumble for a long time, and you'll have to let go of the gas until you reach the ground again.

Banshee Boardwalk

There's a ton of spots to fall down, and not a lot of shortcuts because of it. Try and take your lines well because the pit will force you to get up to top speed again. In the middle of the track, there's an indoor part with some breaks in the floor. You might want to drift in this part, because regular driving will send you into the wall.

Rainbow Road

This course has a rail on either side, so you can't fall off. Instead, focus on keeping your lines along the turns as good as possible. There are chain chomps around the stage that will chomp on the stage in diagonal patterns. This may seem tough to do at first, as sometimes they don't go all the way to the wall. Try and practice dodging these chain chomps. Otherwise, race away on the victory lap for your Mario kart 64 playthrough!
