Stroke Awareness and Education
As Health Scholars, rounding and educating patients and visitors on stroke awareness is an important part of our role. Sharing information about the signs, symptoms, and risk factors of stroke helps raise awareness and can truly make a difference in saving lives.
By reviewing and using the stroke education cards, you’ll strengthen your understanding of stroke including what it is, the signs, and why recognizing the early warning signs is critical.
Remember, knowing the signs of stroke and acting FAST (Face drooping, Arm weakness, Speech difficulty, Time to call 911) can help ensure timely medical intervention.
Please find attached the Rounding Log and Stroke Powerpoint/ BE FAST cards that will be used during patient rounding. Each day, you will receive a new list of patients from various departments throughout the hospital. Once you have completed your rounds, please return the list to us for record-keeping.
Activities at the Subacute Unit (Camarillo Hospital)
The Subacute Unit provides care for patients who are recovering from traumatic brain injuries and require long-term medical and rehabilitative support. Your involvement in patient activities plays an important role in promoting physical mobility, emotional well-being, and overall quality of life. By engaging patients in therapeutic activities, you help encourage independence, prevent complications from immobility, and foster a sense of connection and purpose.
As a Scholar, you may assist with activities such as walking patients to the Healing Garden or to Mass, and supporting them in day-to-day mobility exercises. You will work closely with the Physical Therapy team, Activities Coordinator, Respiratory Therapists, and Nursing Staff to ensure patients remain safely active and engaged. These activities may include range-of-motion exercises, guided walks, chair exercises, and participation in recreational or cognitive activities designed to improve strength and coordination.
Location: Subacute Unit, Camarillo Hospital 2309 Antonio Ave, Camarillo, CA 93010
I have attached a calendar of current activities taking place on the floors in case there is a particular area or type of activity you’d like to focus on.
