Artwork
Presently, I'm enjoying an extended reintroduction to acrylic paints after a years-long hiatus. In recent years, I created with paper and natural materials in my studio, leaving painting to the side for a while. However, after attending an artist retreat in February of 2021, I mixed my own watercolour paints and began to dabble with that medium. Months later, I made a personal promise to pick up other paints that I've neglected and practice with a variety of techniques, compositions, and subjects in acrylics.
My visual focus is on the play of light, contrast, the areas where light and dark diverge, the borders of negative and positive space. Gestalt is my inspiration, and the focus of my personal work for 2024.

Teaching & Learning
When teaching art, I combine instruction and production with the mindful meditative practice of sound bathing. The calm and perspective that immersive sound contributes to the art-making process is beyond measure.

World Turtle: Kinetic Sand Tray
"See the turtle of enormous girth. On it's back it holds the Earth"
Sand trays have been used in therapy to help individuals confront and deal with their trauma. This kinetic sand tray coffers both manual interaction and a mindful visual focus. Manually, sand can be manipulated with a rake, to create an infinite number of temporary designs. As a mindful focus, the turtle does the work: gravity slows the pendulous motion, and wide sweeping arcs become small, tighter, and more interesting.
