Simple Feedback for iPad
Last updated: 16 September 2026
Simple Feedback runs entirely on your iPad. There is no Simple Feedback account, and no server of ours for your work to be sent to.
Student documents, your marking, student names and your task folders stay in the app's private storage on your device.
There is no analytics, no tracking, no advertising and no third party SDK in the app.
The only network connection the app ever makes is to Google, and only if you choose to import a file from Google Drive.
Nothing leaves the app unless you send it, by exporting, sharing or dragging a document out yourself.
Simple Feedback is an iPadOS app published by Duncan Pollock ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the app does with information, and it covers version 1.0 and later. If you have a question about anything here, the contact details are at the end.
We do not collect any information about you. The app has no user account, no sign up, no login of ours, no analytics, no crash reporting service and no advertising identifier. We cannot see your documents, your marking, your students, how often you use the app, or whether you use it at all.
The app does not request access to your contacts, photos, camera, microphone or location.
Everything the app works with is held in its own private, sandboxed storage on your iPad, where only Simple Feedback can read it:
Deleting the app from your iPad removes all of it.
Simple Feedback is a tool for teachers, and the documents you bring into it are usually the work of your students. Because that material never reaches us, we are not a processor of it and we hold none of it. It stays on your device, under your control and under your school's own policies, in the same way as a stack of marked books in your bag.
Two things follow from that, and they are worth stating plainly:
Your school or employer remains responsible for student data under whatever law applies to you. Please follow your school's policy on holding student work on a personal or school device, and use your device passcode and encryption.
If your iPad is lost or stolen while unlocked, whoever holds it can open the app. A passcode, Face ID or Touch ID, and Find My, are your protection here, and we strongly recommend all three.
The app is not directed at children, is intended to be used by teachers and other adults, and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, children included.
If you use iCloud Backup or an encrypted backup to your computer, your iPad's backup may include Simple Feedback's documents, in the same way it includes your other apps' documents. That backup is made and held by Apple or by your computer, not by us, and it is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy. If you would rather student work were not included, you can turn off backup for Simple Feedback in Settings on your iPad.
Importing from Google Drive is the only feature that connects to the internet, and it is entirely optional. If you never use it, the app makes no network connections at all.
You are taken to Google's own sign in and file picker, in a secure browser sheet provided by iOS. We never see your Google password, and the app has no way to read it.
The app asks Google for the drive.file permission only. This is the narrowest Drive permission Google offers: it gives the app access to the specific files you pick in that picker, and to nothing else in your Drive. We cannot browse, search or list your Drive, and we cannot see a file you have not handed over.
The files you pick are downloaded into the app on your iPad. Google Docs, Sheets and Slides are converted to PDF by Google during that download. The copy in Simple Feedback is a one way copy: your marking is never written back to Google Drive.
If you stay signed in, a Google refresh token is stored in your device's Keychain so you are not asked to sign in again on every import. Your email address may be shown on the Settings screen so you can see which account is connected. Both stay on your device.
Simple Feedback's use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. In practice: data from Google Drive is used only to bring the documents you picked into the app for you to mark. It is never transferred to anyone else, never used for advertising, never sold, and never read by a human or used to train any model.
You can sign out at any time in the app's Settings screen, which deletes the stored token from your device. You can also remove the app's access from your Google account at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions. What Google itself records about your account and your use of Drive is covered by Google's Privacy Policy.
Exporting a task, using the share sheet, or dragging a document out of the app sends a copy of that PDF to wherever you choose to send it: the Files app, Mail, AirDrop, your learning management system, or another app. From that moment the copy is handled by that destination and its own privacy policy, and it is out of Simple Feedback's hands. Nothing is ever shared automatically, and nothing is shared without you asking for it.
We have no data about you to share, so there is nothing to sell, nothing to trade and nothing to hand over. We do not use data processors, because no data reaches us to process. If we were ever compelled by law to produce information about a user, we would have none to produce.
Because everything is on your device, you are in full control:
Delete a single document or a whole task folder inside the app.
Sign out of Google Drive in the app's Settings screen to remove the stored token.
Delete Simple Feedback from your iPad to remove everything the app holds, including documents, marking, libraries, preferences and any Google token.
There is no request to send us and no account to close, because we hold nothing to delete.
Data protection law in many countries gives you rights to access, correct, export or erase personal data that a company holds about you. We hold none, so there is nothing for us to produce or erase. For the data on your own device, those actions are the ones listed in section 9 above, and you can take them yourself at any time. For anything Google holds, use your Google account controls. You are still entitled to complain to your national data protection authority if you believe your rights have been breached.
The app stores documents in its own sandboxed container, which other apps cannot read, and relies on iOS Data Protection, which encrypts that storage while your device is locked. Any Google token is kept in the iOS Keychain rather than in ordinary storage. Sign in uses PKCE with no client secret shipped inside the app, and all connections to Google use HTTPS. No method of storage is perfectly secure, but keeping your work on the device and out of anyone's cloud removes most of what there is to attack.
If your domain restricts third party app access through the Google Admin console, Simple Feedback may need to be allowed by its OAuth client ID before staff can import from Drive. The app requests the single scope https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.file, which Google classifies as non sensitive and which grants access only to files a user explicitly picks. Its client ID is available on request from the contact address below.
If the app changes in a way that affects this policy, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will be described in the app's release notes as well, so you are not expected to watch this page.
