What is Simple Day Book? Simple Day Book is an iPad app that recreates the experience of a paper teacher's diary. You can write and draw with Apple Pencil, organise your lessons by day or week, and keep every term's diary neatly stored on your own digital bookshelf.

Which devices does it work on? Simple Day Book is built for iPad running iPadOS 18 or later. An Apple Pencil is recommended for the most natural writing and drawing experience, though the App can also be used with touch.

How do I create a new diary? From your bookshelf, tap to create a new diary and a short setup guide will walk you through naming it, choosing a cover colour, picking a day to page or weekly layout, setting your date range, and configuring your period slots and timetable cycle.

Can I import my school timetable? Yes. If your school provides timetables as an Edval CSV export or Google calendar export, you can import it directly during diary setup. Simple Day Book will match your classes to the correct time slots automatically, including fortnightly or rotating cycles.

Can I write directly on the page like a paper diary? Yes. Simple Day Book uses Apple Pencil and PencilKit so you can write, sketch, and annotate directly on each page, layered cleanly over your template. There is no support for text boxes at this time.

Can I add photos to my diary? Yes, you can attach images to any page and reposition or remove them as needed.

Can I mark holidays or non-teaching days? Yes, holidays can be marked on your calendar and will be reflected across your diary's templates.

Can I tag classes? Yes, class labels can be added to pages so you can find and track important information at a glance.

Can I export my diary? Yes. You can export your diary as an interactive PDF, with clickable links between the calendar overview and individual day or weekly pages, making it easy to navigate on a computer or tablet.

Is my data backed up or stored online? No. Your diaries are stored locally on your iPad. If you use iCloud Backup for your device, your diaries may be included in that backup, but Simple Day Book itself does not upload your data to any server.

Can I lock a diary for privacy? Yes, individual diaries can be locked with Face ID or Touch ID.

What happens if I delete the App? Deleting the App removes all diary data stored on your device, except for any copies included in a separate device backup. We recommend exporting any diaries you want to keep before deleting the App.

Who is Simple Day Book for? Simple Day Book was designed with teachers in mind, but it suits anyone who wants a structured, page based diary for daily or weekly planning.
