The Race for Tiny
WITH four-engined behemoths on the one-way trip to Mojave, it’s clear that airlines want to send these giants to the cemetery of aircraft. Read on to find out the future of aviation.
While many airlines have ditched their quad jets, one airline who you can expect to continue their loyalty to the a380 is Emirates, who have declared that the airliner will stay until the mid-2030s.And if the amount of 747s and a380s being retired isn’t enough, tri-jets like the MD11 and short-haul quad jets like the BAE-146 are having the dreaded final flight to Victorville.
You may be asking what’s next. While many may say aircraft like the 777x and the 787 will be the key, it is actually the long-haul narrowbodies that will dominate the market. Fuel efficient, smaller aircraft are easier to maintain and there are already some on the market(the a320neo family and the 737 MAX). News on the Boeing 797 NMA(New Midsized Aircraft) have been doing the rounds on the internet on its production. The NMA is set to be midway between the size of a 737 MAX and a 787.It will be interesting to also see if the proposed Airbus Zeroe family, which runs on hydrogen, will be introduced.
