Keynote Title: PLURALISM AND NARRATIVE POWER: The Power of Stories To Shape a COVID Recovery
A pluralist society ensures that we all feel like we belong. It is advanced when we see ourselves reflected in all our diversity and multiplicity. It suffers when the narratives and values that underpin our dominant social, cultural, and economic structures—the very structures that also dictate whose stories are funded and told—leave out or cause harm to those of us who belong to racialized, ethnic, and religious minority communities. The way we understand and talk about this story today has the power to propel transformative change towards a more just, equitable and prosperous tomorrow. Will we learn from the pandemic and finally shift the conversation around equity and belonging, or will the history of exclusion repeat itself?
As a first generation Canadian, Sahota has grown up with the challenges inherent with settlement for families. Witnessing firsthand her own family's struggles in her early years and those around her continues to provide the inspiration behind using her voice and platform to advocate for and create systems change that is rooted in the principles of equity, access and justice.
Sahota has won multiple awards for her work in social and economic development, based on creating community impact through resource connections, innovative economic drivers and values-based community partnerships. Neelam has been named the 2022 BC Business’ Woman of the Year in the nonprofit category.

「 多元主義と物語力 〜 物語の力 COVIDリカバリーを創るために 」
多元的な社会は、私たちが皆、自分が属していると感じられることを保証します。それは、私たちが自分たちの多様性と多面性の中に自分たちを映し出しているのを見るとき、促進されます。しかし、支配的な社会的、文化的、経済的構造を支える物語や価値観が、誰の物語に資金を提供し、語るかを決定する構造そのものが、人種的、民族的、宗教的マイノリティのコミュニティに属する私たちを排除したり、傷つけたりしてしまうと、社会は苦しみます。私たちがこの物語を理解し、語る方法は、より公正で公平、かつ豊かな明日に向けた変革を推進する力を持っています。私たちはパンデミックから学び、ついに公平と帰属をめぐる会話を転換するのでしょうか、それとも排除の歴史が繰り返されるのでしょうか。
ニーラム・サホタ氏はカナダ人一世であり、家族の定住に伴う課題を抱えて育ちました。幼少期の家族の苦労を目の当たりにした彼女は、公平、アクセス、正義の原則に根ざしたシステムの変革を、自らの声を使って主張し、実現するためのインスピレーションを与え続けている。
サホタ氏は、リソースの接続、革新的な利益創出、価値観に基づくコミュニティ・パートナーシップを通じたコミュニティ・インパクトの創出に基づいて、社会・経済開発における活動で複数の賞を受賞。2022年BC州ビジネスの非営利部門におけるウーマン・オブ・ザ・イヤーを受賞。
