The project is a residential space of 250sq ft and the user group is considered a recently married working couple in their late 20s. So as they are working, sometimes usually one of them has a work-from-home culture which has started post covid. For this, the critical concepts/keywords we were looking at were the feeling of warmth and coziness.
Looking at the user group, the initial conceptual sketch was about creating a spacious living room by eliminating the wall between the kitchen and living room but providing sliding folding doors to shut it when privacy is needed for the kitchen. Incorporating a workspace was a key thing in keeping the user group in mind. So we have tried to create cozy corners in the house keeping the interiors minimalistic with all the earthy tones.
The drawing shows the furniture layout and planning of the plot according to user needs.
The idea is to put a TV unit towards the left side of the living area so that if the person is in the kitchen they could also watch TV although giving a sitting space right at the entrance would not be feasible since it makes the space look much smaller. Fluted wood is used to make the wardrobe look seamless with the TV unit and not as a different element.
While designing the walls, the idea was to not use different elements and textures on it, Arch niches and openings are used as a design element which helps to soften the hard lines and edges, creating a more organic and flowing feel and it also goes with the idea of boho theme. Terrazzo tiles with wooden infill in a grid pattern are provided in the living area.
While designing the kitchen area, the space shouldn't look more congested, so an output sink is provided and the kitchen platform only has a stove and a small drainage sink for platform water to seep down. A microwave is provided in the center below the stove top and drawers are beside it. Off-white Subway ceramic tiles are used for the kitchen walls.
An office is an incorporated space by merging the toilet and bathroom areas. It is more of a personal space with a window at the right wall towards the balcony having pivoted moveable panels with rattan mesh frame which helps to create connectivity between the two spaces.
Toilet area is designed with minimal elements and ips flooring is provided at the dry space and shower area consist of vitrified striped tiles, mood lightings are provided to space become more asthetic, liveable.
At the balcony a sitting space is provided with flooring made from terrazzo cast in situ, walls are clad with beige stone finish and the planters are provided around the deck area which makes the space more cozier.
This is the detail of a foldable sliding door and it's the same for the office area window, an aluminum track is framed at the lintel level and a nylon cap guide helps the sliding rollers to move. the hinge holds the door panels in place. Fluted glass is used in the door panel to create privacy in the kitchen if needed. The flooring layout shows different finishes such as the terrace area consisting of cream terrazzo tiles and deck space having wooden tiles and the kitchen area having porcelain wooden patterned tile.
The electrical layout plan shows different lighting and switch fixtures, we have used 4 types of LED lights and 2 sizes of fans which are 600 mm dia for the kitchen and office area and 1200 mm dia for the living area. the last sheet is of BOQ
