Booth Et. Al
I believe the article, "The Craft of Research", by Wayne C. Booth provides guidance on how to produce a thorough and impactful research paper! I find this to be clever as this idea is somewhat hinted at in the article's title, using the word "craft" to imply that the research paper is being skillfully crafted or created! Booth emphasizes the importance of addressing specific questions and forming a conclusion that then establishes the significance of the overall research. One piece of advice that Booth gives is to "ask a question whose answer solves a problem that you can convince readers to care about " (35). This statement emphasizes the importance of making a research proposal that is not only relevant but also significant and valuable to the readers.
Initially, I was apprehensive about starting this assignment, but upon reading the first page, I found it surprisingly engaging and ended up reading more. Interestingly, the entire article relates to the topics covered in my current psych research methods class. As of now, I have learned that there are five characteristics that make a good research question: the type of relationship, variables of interest, single study, falsifiable/testable, and worthwhile. Nonetheless, this particular segment of the article seems to highlight the importance of a research question being worthwhile. As the article progresses, it shifts its focus towards utilizing various resources to narrow down the research topic and eliminate alternative possibilities, thereby making the research paper more effective.
