Pit and Spike Strips Policy

Pit Policy

A pit can only be initiated after 5 minutes in a 10-80. A pit must be approved by a supervisor + and units must request permission in order to pit. Units are not allowed to pit if they are active K9. A pit timer must be set up by supervisor +.

Spike Strips

Spike strips can only be deployed after 5 minutes in a 10-80 and must be approved by a supervisor +. However spike can be deployed if the subject is recklessly endangering the public (Shot other civilians or cops, Running over civilians or cops in a motor vehicle). This does not apply if the subject has a warrant for attempted murder or murder. Spikes can only be deployed immediately (if approved by a supervisor +) if the subject shows harm on the current active scene.
