My studies in political science have provided me with a breadth of knowledge and experiences which have sparked my interest in a wide variety of topics. Though politics and government are my focus, this discipline has led me to dabble in many other fields including astronomy, education, economics, finances, history, philosophy, religion, and social services.
Studying political science helped me to see the intersection that many issues have with each other. For example, a student struggling in school and how that could be related to a number of issues including quality of schooling, problems at home related to housing, the criminal justice system, or a number of different factors all converging to negatively impact a child's educational attainment.
Focused more on politics, the image up top is a map of the world divided by forms of government including Presidential, Parliamentary, Semi-Presidential, etc. Similar to the education example, there are a number of factors that converge leading a country to its eventual form of government. How does population vs geographic size impact a county's form of government? What role does a country's location play in determining its form of government?
Overall, studying political science has broadened my horizons and given me a new perspective on how things operate and the interdisciplinary nature of everything around us.
