Throughout 2019, I decided to volunteer or intern for political campaigns. Being a political science major, I thought it was important to be exposed to politics as much as possible. At this time I also wanted to pursue a more traditional political science career like a legislative staffer or campaign aide. I volunteered with the Bonilla campaign for the entire year. My work with the Dyer campaign was a paid internship during the fall semester.

Even though I know that I do not want to pursue these types of careers, working for campaigns was an extremely rewarding experience that I will cherish forever. I enjoyed learning about the inner workings of how elections run. I was able to build campaign signs, host events, and reach out to donors for support. It also pushed me out of my comfort zone meeting a variety of people like state senators and representatives.
