I am a first-generation college student utilizing my understanding of political science to pursue a career as an educator. Whether it is teaching people subjects at the primary or secondary level, advising students on how to be successful in college, or explaining personal finances and socio-economic issues to others, I want to use the skills I have to educate people on a variety of topics in order to create a more educated and well-rounded citizenry.
I find a deep sense of enjoyment in learning about the world. There is so much knowledge to be uncovered and facts to learn about that sometimes I have to pause and humble myself and remember that all of us are in an insignificant pocket of space, in an insignificant period of time, trying to make sense of this thing we all accept as reality, all while seeking to find purpose in the human experience. Our world is such a fascinating place and I have a deep sense of curiosity to understand it better.
Though the experiences I highlight in this portfolio may seem unrelated to one another, all converge to help me formulate where the next steps in my journey lie. I have learned so much about myself and the world around me in these last 6 years. Each experience has been unique, but all have led me to where I am today and how I want to impact the world. With that in mind, I eventually see myself operating at three different levels in the field of education. First, creating and analyzing policies to guide the future of our education system. Second, working to implement said policies either in the classroom or other school-related capacities. Third, working on the outside advising parents and students alike on how to successfully navigate our system of education and the world more generally.
Upon graduation, I plan on working as an academic advisor and coach. Much of my previous work experience has been geared toward those roles, and I can help students in specific and tangible ways. I also plan on working with no-profits on numerous issues that are important to me. Having worked in several community-based organizations, I know the positive impact they have on society at large. After working for a few years, I plan on going to graduate school. This will provide me with the skills and credentials I need to fix the problems I see in society from the top-down and not just the bottom-up.
