I moved down to the city much to my dismay
You see my husband loved the life he came from down that way
But crowds around the shopping malls and all those neon lights
With barbeques and parties it was not my way of life

This farms been in our family for over ninety years
And many cherished memories with loved ones we have shared
So I came back from the city to give my dad a hand
But ever since I came back mother nature’s cursed the land

And when I awake each morning out here on old Calare
I wonder as I look around what am I doing here
Cause memories won’t make fortunes or fill that cupboard bare
But it’s all part of history of this place we call Calare

Out here on Calare life gets hard to take
Falling prices for the livestock inside the boundary gate
Now money’s scarce and times are hard the crops out here still fail
and it seems just like eternity since fat stock went to sale

So I’ll head back to the city where life’s just not the same
with strangers and acquaintances those faces without names
To pay our family mortgage and hold off more despair
Cause we can’t walk from tradition and sell off old Calare

Now when I awake each morning out here on old Calare
I know when I look around what I am doing here
Though memories won’t make fortunes or fill those cupboards bare
They’re all part of history of this place we call Calare

Yes it’s all part of history and our life that is Calare

We wake up every morning as our feet hit the floor
We’re running to meet deadlines of the day
Get the kids off to school our husbands to work
Jump in the car and off to earn our pay

But there’s the times we’re drowning we barely feel alive
At times it’s a struggle to survive

But on a good day the sun shines so bright
On a good day everything seems right
On a good day we take it in our stride
And we wouldn’t have it any other way
That’s on a good day

And come the weekend it’s time to relax
But it’s off to sports and parties once again
Racing here and there pushed to the max
Try to recall that time way back when

The time before we became a mother and a wife
That time when we had a life

But on a good day the sun shines so bright
On a good day everything seems right
On a good day we take it in our stride
And we wouldn’t have it any other way
That’s on a good day

One leg rolled up one pants leg down

To the rest of the world he may look like a clown

The cattle were dying that he pulled from the mud

Last time I came home he was fighting a flood

And I've got no opinion I've got no idea

What keeps a man going courage or fear

Fear he'd be leaving his old world behind

Courage to go on for he's one of a kind

He's one of gods children just doing their best

God let him rest easy when he's passed your test

He may act half crazy with this drought on his hands

But he stands ten feet tall by the measure of man

And I've got no opinion I've got no idea

What keeps a man going courage or fear

Fear he'd be leaving his old world behind

Courage to go on for he's one of a kind

Two hands reach out with love and joy

One tear said the words she could never employ

Cause here in the old home needing repair

Waits his lady in life with their son and heir

They're two to gods children now I'll make this request

God keep them together these hands you have blessed

The droughts and the flood times rest hard on their minds

While the rest of this country is a picture divine

And I've got no opinion I've got no idea

What keeps a man going is it courage or fear

Fear he'd be leaving his old world behind

Courage to go on for he's one of a kind

No I've got no opinion I've got no idea

Just how far we'd be without these pioneers

And I've got no opinion with no thought in mind

Why we'd change Australia for its one of a kind

So why change Australia she's one of a kind

There’s nothing I can say today
That can help us anyway
Nothing I can do to make it better
I see it hidden in your eyes
Feel no need for reasons why
I’ll be here waiting when it’s over
But I’d rather hide the pain
Than risk losing you again
For I’d do anything for love

‘Cause we’re just one step away
One step away one step away from love

There’s nothing I can offer now
that will change things anyhow
I’ll wait in the wings always hoping
Those inner secrets you can hide
Concealed now deep inside
It’s just your innate way of coping
So I’d rather hide the pain
Than risk losing you again
For I’d do anything for love

Now we’re just one step away
One step away one step away from love

la la la la la la
So I’ll just carry on
Be strong whilst you are gone
For I’d do anything for love

‘Cause we’re just one step away
One step away one step away from love

We’re just one step away
One step away one step away from love

I watch the gum leaves gently falling

The gentle breeze takes them away

Upon the wind I hear you calling

Seems like only yesterday

We’d walk hand in hand together

Feed the horses tend the stock

Though you’re gone we all remember

How you were our family rock

You were the one to bare the load

You were the one to smooth our road

You’d take the heat from every flame

I hold your name with all I’ve got

You were our family rock

I often feel that you’re here with me

Watching over things I do

But I wish that I could call thee

To feel your touch, hear I Love You

I’m thankful for all you have given

And by the way that was a lot

We all carry on still driven

Guided by our family rock

You were the one to bare the load

You were the one to smooth our road

You’d take the heat from every flame

I hold your name with all I’ve got

You were our family rock

I see the cattle stringing while the stockmen brightly sing

Feel the grey horse springing as we thunder down the wing

My finger grips are tightening on the straining bridle reins

While the dull blood turns to lighting wildly flashing through my veins

From the bellbirds in the mulga I can hear the chimes again

In fancy see the brolgas dancing on the sandy plain

Hear the river flowing in a song that never dies

See the bushland glowing from the golden summer skies

And I’ve done a deal of roving down the track of life since then

I’d gladly go back droving should I have the chance again

Those wild rides through the ranges are remembered with amaze

When youth and care were strangers in my overlander days

Yes life’s seen many changes since my overlander days

The stirring scene of battle was the muster on the plain

As restless wild eyed cattle dashed for liberty in vain

Stockwhips rang in chorus as we started with a shout

With a thousand miles before us to a station further out

The days of pleasing changes through a wild and lonely land

Rollin down to lofty ranges swamps and desert sands

Nights were nights of glory round the camp fire’s golden blaze

Was filled with song and story in the overlander days

And I’ve done a deal of roving down the track of life since then

I’d gladly go back droving should I have the chance again

Those wild rides through the ranges are remembered with amaze

When youth and care were strangers in my overlander days

Yes life’s seen many changes since my overlander days
