Being digital literate begins with understanding and embracing digital citizenship as part of everyday engagement and interaction with curriculum disciplinary content, innovative best practices, and digital resources.
My adventure and journey with the ISTE Education Certification was no easy task! When I began this memorable journey, I had known about the ISTE Standards since I became an educator in the United States in 2002. Through years of innovation, the ISTE Standards evolved as well. These have become more relevant in supporting the vision for students as they build their knowledge and skills as future citizens of society. You can click on the image below to access my portfolio.
My journey to becoming a Microsoft Innovative Educator began in 2017 when I joined the community of educators in the El Paso Independent School District. It is a privilege and an honor to serve the El Paso community's students, teachers, parents, administrators, and leaders.
The journey was difficult based on various projects, programs, and challenging tasks requiring attention, organization, collaboration, and communication. It was transformation at its finest! Nevertheless, my spirit of strength and courage did not hinder me from striving for the better each day!

The CASEL group developed what is called the "CASEL Wheel" that focused on the five (5) competencies of the Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Framework. These competencies are self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision-making, relationship skills, and social awareness.
The integration of these competencies is not only meant to deliver SEL instruction and develop a positive classroom climate. Schools can benefit from SEL when incorporated into school-wide culture, practices, and policies. Likewise, these SEL competencies can support the development of authentic partnerships between schools and families/caregivers. Lastly, SEL competencies can align learning opportunities with broader communities.
New Technology Application TEKS (Adopted 2022)
When students are actively and enthusiastically engaged in the classroom, they can create new ideas from the knowledge, skills, and information received and facilitated in the learning environment. Active learning provides various opportunities for teachers to develop and embrace a paradigm shift in their everyday best practices. This methodology includes designing and creating learning environments that highly encourage student autonomy, choice and voice, interdependence, critical thinking, small group learning, collaboration and communication, professional ethics, and culture, to name a few.
