Sales tax exemption (State of Texas only) allows active service unit and troop leaders to purchase certain items for service unit and troop activities on a tax-free basis.
To obtain a GSCTX sales tax-exempt card for your troop, contact your Service Unit Director or Service Unit Registrar.
Present the card to retailers prior to all troop/service unit purchases. Some retailers, like Walmart and Office Depot, may have their own form to complete, where they will assign a group number to reference GSCTX as an authorized tax-exempt organization.
Do not alter the sales tax-exempt card provided.
Do not provide the GSCTX tax ID number to non-members.
Use the sales tax-exempt card wisely and only for troop/service unit purchases, never for personal purchases. Use the troop/service unit bank account for sales tax-exempt purchases.
Using the sales tax-exempt card for personal purchases is considered a Class C Misdemeanor.
Sales tax exemptions apply only to core items (books, uniforms, insignia, earned awards, and patches) when purchased entirely with a troop bank account debit card or check—no split payments are allowed.
