"Look at me
Look at me
Look at me now!
It is fun to have fun,
But you have to know how"
Note: The Following is a Temporary Overlay of a more regular How the Grinch Stole Christmas themed e-ticket, set to the 20th anniversary of Mike Meyer's the Cat in the Hat. After a year has passed upon the attraction's opening, the standard How the Grinch Stole Christmas attraction will be rethemed in its place. Until then, enjoy the chaos!
You think you know the story of How the Grinch Stole Christmas, but there’s something Dr. Seuss forgot to tell you…
Rising above the landscape of Seuss Landing stands Mount Crumpit, the legendary home of The Grinch. As guests approach, they see what appear to be presents, Christmas trees, and other decorations scattered in the grass around the walkways.
The queue is a short tour of Whoville decorated for Christmas as a continuation of the Whoville facades in Seuss Landing. Guests pass by different odd-looking houses before entering a wooded area in front of the the entrance to the attraction, the Grinch’s school at the base of Mount Crumpit, complete with decorations scattered around from the last time he was in the building. A screen on the “chalkboard” shows what happened when the Grinch stole Christmas from Whoville. From there, the guests board the attraction.
The ride vehicles are simple miniature sleighs with a capacity of 6 people per vehicle and five vehicles per train. The special feature on these vehicles is, much like the vehicles in Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, that they can rotate during the ride.
The attraction begins with the sleighs slowly riding into the Grinch’s home, where an AA Grinch is sitting on his throne, surrounded by presents and decorations, as he tells guests how he stole Christmas. Max sits at his feet, wearing his antler and nose, looking like he wants the Grinch to play with him. As guests exit the scene, a doorbell rings.
In the next room, a small scene shows the Grinch opening up his door to see an AA Cat in the Hat, Mike Myers (almost) in the flesh. The Cat in the Hat, hereafter referred to as CH, says, “Hiya Grinchy, are you ready to have some fun?”
The next scene shows the Grinch and CH in the Grinch’s house, talking to each other.
CH: “Grinchy, don’t you know that stealing Christmas isn’t fun?”
Grinch: “It was fun for me!”
CH: “Then why don’t you look like you’re having fun? It seems like you can’t have fun.”
Grinch: “Stealing Christmas is the most fun I’ve had in years!”
CH: “Really? We need to change that Grinchy because stealing Christmas isn’t fun for everyone else. So how about we have some fun with your friends?”
As CH finishes his line, he turns toward the cars and waves goodbye. Suddenly, the cars accelerate around multiple angled bends before hearing the Grinch and CH arguing.
Grinch: “This is my ride!”
As he says this, there’s a ‘clack’ sound as if he pulls a lever and the cars in-line twist to the left.
CH: “You need to learn how to have fun!”
Another ‘clack’ as the cars twist to the right. The track then carries the guests through a rapid series of twists, turns, and two inversions before careening into a hairpin turn. The cars slow down slightly as they face outward, seeing a screen that shows CH wrecking the Grinch’s home, bouncing around and laughing. Behind him, the Grinch trails, looking skeptical but not entirely angry.
As guests exit the scene, CH says, “There’s still one more thing you need to see Grinchy!” With that, the cars enter a corkscrew before racing up a helix as they climb Mount Crumpit. As the helix nears the top, it slows as a yellow glow and quiet singing can be seen and heard, with the singing getting louder as the cars reach the apex. At the top of the helix, the cars turn to a fake outcropping that appears to overlook Whoville. In reality, this is another screen, except it shows the same view as guests would expect to see based on their tour through Whoville earlier. Within Whoville, the Whos sing in a circle before guests rotate to see CH and the Grinch AAs.
CH: “You see Grinchy? People are what make the fun. Not presents, not decorations. Fun is best when it’s shared with others.”
Guests look on as the Grinch’s chest lights up as his heart visibly grows (a happier alternative to him writhing on the ground in pain).
Grinch: “I’ve made a terrible mistake… Max, we have to take everything back! Now!”
The cars careen backwards from where they came from before taking an abrupt turn away from the helix. While the cars were at the top of the mountain, part of the track switched. The cars now slip backwards out into open air as the Grinch yells “The sleigh!”
The cars slide to the edge of the cliff, which is visible to guests in Seuss Landing. Slowly, the cars, which appear to be hanging off the edge, rotate so they’re facing downward. After a moment, guests hear what sounds like footsteps in the snow, and they are slowly pulled back up before turning back towards the mountain.
While the cars were hanging off the edge, the track switched to a third configuration, where an AA Max appears to be pulling the cars up from the edge of Mount Crumpit. Once all the cars are back, the track shifts back to the original configuration. Max wags his tail and barks as the cars race back down the rest of the helix. At the bottom, they turn and make a barrel roll before slowing down.
The cars enter another part of Whoville, with the Whos and the Grinch standing around the Christmas tree that he returned. To the side of the track, looking on at the Grinch is CH, who turns to look at the cars as they pass him, saying “Isn’t this a more fun story?”
After unloading, guests exit back into Whoville before returning to Seuss Landing.
