Anthony was born on October 1, 1951 and died on November 29, 1995. After being convicted of a murder in Saint Charles, he ended up confessing to over thirty one murders that spanned over 11 states, dating all the way back to 1960. Anthony was also a serial rapist. He died by lethal injection in Potosi. Because of the number of murders, I will only be focusing on his murders in Missouri.
On December 7, 1977, Anthony went to Kansas City where he stalked Beverly Wortmann. He followed her back to her apartment and went inside, where he stabbed her 19 times before finally slitting her throat. Other men were accused of this murder and they could not find the real killer. More kills were spaced out between this across different states before he returned to Missouri in 1980. On July 25, in Saint Charles, Anthony followed Mary Fleming back to her family's apartment. After making sure she was alone, he broke in and attempted to rape her before stabbing her twice and slitting her throat. He fled the scene. Mary was still alive and ran to her neighbors for help. She later died in the hospital. She was not sexually assaulted. Her death led to Anthony's apprehension. He evaded authorities for a few days before he was discovered at his sister's address after a failed suicide attempt. He was returned to Saint Charles. He was investigated for not only the murder but other rapes in the area as well.
Anthony and his father later conspired to kill guards and escape in transport to a hospital. This attempt failed due to his father failing to bribe a police official. Anthony was found guilty after only an hour from the jury. He was sentenced to death. They tried to appeal this to the Missouri Supreme Court, but this failed because his murders had been pre planned due to the stalking. To my understanding, he confessed to more murders but was not charged because he was already on death row. His execution was delayed a day, and he confessed to 31 murders and 10 rapes. He apologized to his and the victim's families right before the execution.
