Wynnum station opened in 1888 when the line was opened to Manly. In 1913, the line through the station was duplicated from Murarrie to Manly. On 15 October 1983, the line was electrified from Park Road to Thorneside.
Wynnum serves the homonymous suburb of Wynnum which was named after the aboriginal word describing the screw pine.
Wynnum station has two platforms consisting of an island platform. Platform 1 is for outbound services and platform 2 is for inbound services.
Wynnum station has two station entrances. One is from the carpark on Thorne Street and one is from Madgwick Street
