On 3 November 1984, the line was electrified from Roma Street to Kingston. On 23 March 1985, two people were killed and 19 injured in a train crash. The units involved were EMU 11 and EMU 27 which were both repaired and are still in service today. On 21 April 1992, a second platform opened as part of the duplication of the line.
