Sunshine is located on the Redcliffe Peninsula Line and is served by train services travelling from Kippa-Ring to Roma Street with many continuing to Springfield Central. Sunshine is located 13 km from Roma Street and the approximate travel time is 20 minutes.

Sunshine station opened in the 1950s. The line was electrified on 23 April 1983. On 28 August 2000, an additional platform opened due to the addition of the third track from Northgate to Bald Hills.
Sunshine station was named after the station with the same name in Melbourne, Victoria.
Sunshine station itself has three platforms consisting of an island platform and a side platform. Platform 1 is for inbound services, platform 3 is for outbound services and platform 2 is for some afternoon and evening peak services.
Sunshine station has only one station entrance from Bilsen Road.
Sunshine station does have disability access however assistance is required due to the steep ramp.
