Sunnybank station opened in 1889 at the same time as the line. Between 1950 and 1952 the line was duplicated through the station from Yeerongpilly to Kuraby. On 18 September 1982, the line was electrified through the station from Roma Street to Kingston. In 2008, the station was upgraded due to the Salisbury to Kuraby triplication project which included converting the eastern platform to an island and a new footbridge with lifts.
Sunnybank was named after the homonymous suburb of Sunnybank which was named after early settler’s farm, Sunnybrae.
Sunnybank station has three platforms consisting of an island platform and a side platform. Platform 1 is used for outbound services and platform 3 is used for inbound services. Platform 2 is only used during peak hour.
Sunnybank station has four entrances. Two are from Dixon Street and two are from the carpark on Stones Road
Sunnybank station does have disability access.
