Pomona station opened in 1891 when the North Coast line opened between Cooran and Cooroy. The line was electrified from Nambour to Gympie North on 4 February in 1989. In 2009, the station was extended with a temporary structure with scaffolding and plywood materials which is only a temporary arrangement which had to be rebuilt in 2012 following flooding.
Pomona station is named after the homonymous town of Pomona which was named after the Roman goddess of fruit and orchards.
Pomona consists of one platform and it is used by services travelling in both directions. There is a passing loop opposite the platform.
Pomona station only has one entrance from the carpark on Factory Street.
Pomona station does have disability access however assistance is required due to the steep ramp.
There is a bus stop nearby on Factory Street serving nearby suburbs. The route that serves Pomona station is route 632 from Cooran to Noosa Junction which is not timed to connect with train services.
