Cooroy station opened on 1 April 1891, when the line was extended to Cooroy from Cooran. The full length of the line to Roma Street was completed on 17 July 1891. The Yandina to Cooroy section was completed completing the line to Brisbane. The line was electrified from Nambour to Gympie North on 4 February in 1989. The station was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 14 August 2008.
Cooroy station is named after the homonymous town of Cooroy. It comes from the word tall in the local Kabi indigenous language meaning ‘grey forest possum’.
Cooroy consists of one platform and it is used by services travelling in both directions. There is a passing loop opposite the platform
Cooroy station only has two entrances from which are the carpark on Elm Street and the carpark on Maple Street.
Cooroy station does have disability access however assistance is required due to the steep ramp.
There are bus stops outside the station on King Street. It is served by route 631 to Noosa Junction and Nambour and route 632 to Noosa Junction and Cooran however they are not timed to connect with train services.
Cooroy station is the highest station on the QR citytrain network at an elevation of 110 metres above sea level and it is the only station on the entire network that has an altitude of over 100 metres.
