Lota is located on the Cleveland Line and is served by all train services travelling from Cleveland to Bowen Hills with many continuing to Shorncliffe. Lota is located 25.1 km from Roma Street and the approximate travel time is 43 minutes.

Lota station opened in 1889, when the line was extended from Manly. On 1 November 1960, the station became the terminus due to truncation of the line. The line to Wellington Point reopened on 26 July 1986.
Lota serves the homonymous suburb of Lota which was named after the residence of early settler William Duckett White.
Lota station has two platforms consisting of an island platform. Platform 1 is for outbound services and platform 2 is for inbound services.
Lota station has two station entrances. One is from Railway Terrace and one is from the walkway leading to Auvern Street and Bowering Street.
Lota station does have disability access however assistance is required due to the steep ramp.
