Walks around Sedbergh are ideal for one to two hours upto 1/2 day excursions for families, groups and individuals. The walks shown here each offer different interests such as river and nature walking, peace ful hamlets and easy fells and learning about the history and culture of the area. We can incorporate visits to the Quaker meeting house at Briggflats or heritage arts and crafts at Farfield Mill. Whilst the walks usually start from Sedbergh, this can be adjusted to start at your local accommodation if that is more convenient. Your guide will ensure you take the best route for your group, share knowledge and highlight points of interest as we proceed.
Ellerthwaite and the River Rawthey - 3.5 miles / 2 hours - Easy walking from Sedbergh through Ellerthwaite woods along side the River Rawthay to Farfield Mill. Easy, nature walking and rambling with historical interest.
Around Sedbergh, Millthrop and Fostrow Fell - 4.5 miles / 2-3 hours - Taking in local sights, through Akay woods to the delightful hamlet of Millthrop, then onto Fostrow Fell for superb views back over Sedbergh to the Howgills. Returning along the banks of the River Rawthey.
Firbank Fell, Fox's Pulpit and the River Lune - 4.5 miles / 3 hours - Ascending Firbank Fell, we visit Fox's Pulpit, the reputed site where the Quaker movement began, before descending to follow the River Lune with its opportunities for wild swimming.
An ascent of Winder - 3 miles / 2 hours - Winder is Sedbergh's own Matterhorn, it is a real peak, although very much a non technical climb. Winder overlooks the town and provides numerous ways to see and experience the higher fells for a modest outlay of time and sweat.
