Chapter 4
Science, Technology, and Society
See Sourcebook for Teaching Science for full text
Science–Technology–Society (STS) learning in science is an instructional approach that connects scientific concepts to technological applications and social issues that affect everyday life. Students explore how science and technology influence society—and how societal needs, values, and ethics shape scientific and technological development—by examining real-world problems such as climate change, medical innovations, or energy use. The teacher facilitates discussion, critical analysis, and decision-making, helping students develop scientific literacy, ethical reasoning, and an informed understanding of the interconnectedness of science, technology, and society.
