Funds of Knowledge

Funds of knowledge aren't just facts students bring to the classroom; it's the rich tapestry of experiences and skills they've accumulated throughout their lives. In science teaching, this can be anything from a student's knowledge of plant cycles gained through helping in their family garden to the understanding of electrical circuits picked up from tinkering with electronics. By valuing these funds of knowledge, teachers can bridge the gap between textbook science and the real world.  This allows students to connect scientific concepts to their own experiences, making learning more meaningful and engaging.  It also fosters a more inclusive classroom environment where diverse backgrounds are seen as assets, not obstacles, to scientific exploration.
