Maker Champions

Making

Making in the SDNB offers opportunities for all students to ask questions, seek solutions and build and represent their ideas through the use of unique tools and capacities.

Throughout the process of Maker Learning & Design Thinking learners access tools and techniques that allow them to design, prototype, evaluate, and reflect

Making is connected to curriculum-based learning and passion-based learning.

Developing a Maker Experience

Student Maker learning experiences are rooted in the design thinking process. We provide students with access to unique tools and capacities to develop ideas, create prototypes and test ideas. This process has allowed our teachers and students to dive deeper into how they solve problems and gain exposure to current and emerging technologies.

What does it mean to be a maker champion?

Developing a culture of making and design begins with building the ability of educators to understand the impact of student learning experiences designed around the making and design thinking process and how it is necessary for preparing students for career and life readiness. To build this capacity, it is important for educators to experience design thinking and making prototypes first hand. Maker Champions also have the unique opportunities to explore and evaluate these processes with their students. It has served as a great way to develop systematic supports for this work district wide. This site provides curated examples for a variety of grade bands.
