SDIA is a resource group for certified interpreters, students, and members of the deaf community in South Dakota to promote, grow and develop the profession of interpretation and transliterating American Sign Language. Together, we work to enhance the skills of interpreters through various workshops, conferences, ongoing education, resource materials and forums throughout South Dakota.
The South Dakota Interpreter Network Coalition (SDINC) was founded in January of 1995. After several years of operating in the state of South Dakota with three separate interpreter organizations, a suggestion was made to combine the SDINC and the SD NAD Interpreters organizations. It was in 2004 that the two groups were able to make a successful merger. Together the members agreed on the name South Dakota Interpreters Association (SDIA) SDIA continues to offer numerous workshops within the state providing interpreters with an opportunity to continue growing in the interpreting field. In 2015, SDIA and SDRID decided to merge together to promote both organizations. In 2021, SDIA decided to disband from RID and focusing on local members and their needs.
