Welcome to the South Dakota Interpreter Association (SDIA)
The South Dakota Interpreters Association (SDIA) is a vibrant network of interpreters, students, and Deaf community members dedicated to advancing the profession of American Sign Language interpreting and transliterating. Our mission is to create opportunities for growth, connection, and professional development through workshops, conferences, ongoing education, resource sharing, and community forums across the state.
Our history began in 1995 with the formation of the South Dakota Interpreter Network Coalition (SDINC). Nearly a decade later, in 2004, SDINC and the SD NAD Interpreters merged to become SDIA, uniting interpreters under one strong, collaborative organization. In 2015, SDIA partnered with SDRID to further expand opportunities, and in 2021, we charted a new path by focusing fully on the unique needs of our local members.
Today, SDIA continues to thrive as a hub for professional development and community building—committed to empowering interpreters, celebrating our shared history, and shaping a stronger future for language access in South Dakota.
