Dive In with us!

We are so excited you're here! Over the years, we have compiled a list of FAQs about our swim program, but we are always open to new questions! If your question is not answered below, please feel free to reach out to us at scswimmers@gmail.com or fill out this form!

Do you have tryouts?

Our desire is for all interested swimmers to be part of our swim team! For that reason, we do not have tryouts. Rather, our coaches rely on the discrepancy of the parent or swimmer to understand the commitment of the team's physical expectations and practices.

As scholars first, it is imperative all prospective swimmers are eligible to participate in extracurriculars based on SCCS guidelines and not only athletic ability.

My child knows how to swim, but has never swam competitively. Can they still join the team?

Yes! The more familiarity your child has with a pool, the better!

Our only requirement is for your child to be able swim the length of a pool and back! While our program teaches competitive strokes, we expect all prospective swimmers to be able to swim.

When is the swim season?

By Georgia High School Association (GHSA) regulations, we can officially hit the water in mid-October (spanning over Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years) and our off-season begins in mid-February.

Since there is no pool in the Sports Complex, where do you practice?

We have practiced at Walton Athletic 24 since 2018!

Walton Athletic 24 facilities are perfect for our team. In addition to pool access with diving blocks, the teams also incorporate dry land workouts in the form of weight training, spinning, yoga and stretching!

Do we have a new team and new coaches when transitioning to High School from Middle School?

No! Our coaching staff coaches both middle AND high school swimmers! This continuity from the middle school to high school program is smooth and the only noticeable difference will be at meets (most meets are combined with middle and high school swimmers, however not all). Furthermore, our practices groups are based off of skillset, versus grade. We have found this provides the coaches to provide more personalized direction and quality feedback to our swimmers!

I've heard there are a lot of fundraisers ... is this true?

Yes, this is true! It takes a lot of money to support our team.

Due to pool rental, equipment and meet fees, our annual operating costs are between $15,000 - $20,000/season. Our booster exists to offer the opportunity for all interested swimmers to swim, regardless of any financial situation. In order to keep our swim fees affordable, the balance of costs are offset by participating in fundraising opportunities. All swimmers are required to participate in at least 2 group fundraisers/semester.

How much does it cost to be on the team?

Every season, we take into account our previous season's financials to project our current season's budget. Swim Dues cover the cost of our pool rental & individual practice gear (required).*

The following are the dues/school during our 2020-2021 season:

Middle School

  • New Swimmer: $300

  • Returning Swimmer: $250

High School

  • New Swimmer: $350

  • Returning Swimmer: $300

* Please keep in mind dues are subject to change each fall, however the Swim Team Booster Board strives to keep dues consistent and fair.

Are there additional expenses that are NOT covered by swim dues?

There are! Each swimmer must be equipped with their own practice gear:

  1. swim suit,

  2. goggle(s) and

  3. towel(s)

  4. water bottle

All of these items can be easily purchased by visiting our team store (Click Here!).

All swimmers are required to purchase a competition suit. Instructions to order our competition suit will be provided after your student has signed up to swim in the fall! These are branded, uniform items (you can budget for anywhere in between $25-$80, depending on gender and style).

My child is interested, but plays a fall or spring sport. Is this ok?

Dear parent of athletes, you are not alone! Many of our swimmers participate in multiple sports and clubs before and after our (winter) season.

We encourage cross training in the off season.

Fall sports overlap with the start of swim season, but exceptions are always made for missed practices due to prior sport and club commitments. Normally, by the first swim meet, all athletes are available to compete and are fully committed to the swim team for the remainder of the season!

Furthermore, if you have a spring athlete, PLEASE enroll them in our swim program. More than gaining a swim team family, they will be well-conditioned for their spring sport, we guarantee it!

When are swim meets?

All combined (MS + HS) meets are on Saturdays, starting in late October/early November. Some HS meets may take place during the week. Our meet schedule is established around mid-October, then communicated to parents and swimmers.

How/Where can we sign up to swim?

If you are interested in joining our team, please let us know! You can email us at scswimmers@gmail.com or fill out this interest form. We will be sure to get back to you to introduce ourselves or answer any questions you may have. We really cherish the opportunity to get to know you and your family and look forward to hearing from you!

NOTE: For faster processing, please be sure to have a physical on file with the school & athletic fee paid; your school's Athletic Director can accept both the physical and fee. If the prospective swimmer is currently participating in a fall sport, their physical is already on file and athletic fee has already been paid; neither of these need to be replicated.

How can I join the Booster?

Thank you for your interest! As a parent or guardian of a swimmer on our team, you are automatically a Booster Member. We value your opinion and encourage you to offer feedback as we collectively work together to maintain an encouraging, uplifting and positive environment for our swimmers to thrive in.

For further involvement in our Booster Club, we encourage you to check out our Booster Club page where you'll have access to view our current Board Members, learn about Booster & Board roles and bylaws, and determine where you can best contribute to our team if you'd like!
