PHASE 1-2: BUY-IN, ASSESSMENT, AND PLANNING
GOALS, MANDATES, AND STRATEGIES
Land Ecosystems and Grounds Goals, Mandates, and Strategies: This resource page makes the case for why sustainable land-based ecosystems and grounds matter for schools, and lays out relevant goals, mandates, and strategies for school communities to consider.
Green Schoolyards America has worked in partnership with a number of different organizations (including Ten Strands, The California Department of Education, etc.) to launch both the National Outdoor Learning Initiative and the Schoolyard Forest System. Both of these initiatives outline the case for why green and living schoolyards matter and they have robust toolkits of resources.
ASSESSMENT AND AUDIT RESOURCES
District and Site Land Ecosystems and Grounds Audit: This tool provides a comprehensive audit for land based ecosystems and grounds issues across a campus, curriculum, and community.
Green Ribbon (ED-GRS & CA-GRS): P1 - E1B: Water and Ground Use, P2 - E2A: Environmental Health, P2 - E2B: Nutrition and Fitness

PHASE 2-3: IMPLEMENTATION, CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT, AND RECOGNITION
TRACKING AND MONITORING
There are a number of things to track and monitor for Land-Based Ecosystems and Grounds, such as integrated pest management systems, biodiversity, etc.

The San Mateo County Office of Education's (SMCOE) Environmental Literacy and Sustainability Initiative (ELSI) developed a number of supplemental curriculum resources:
California Education and the Environment Initiative is a program of CalRecycle's Office of Education and the Environment that aims to foster environmental literacy among K-12 students. Sign up to receive access to their free lessons!
The California Academy of Sciences offers a multitiude of free science lesson plans in the "Educators" section of their website, many of which cover land ecosystems, biodiversity, and climate change.
