Meet Our 2024 Cohort
Adrian was a student at Pierce College. During summer 2024, he worked with his PhD student mentor Jacob to establish metrics of reproducibility on The Everyone Project, a project intended to introduce people in the Riley Lab to glycoproteomics.
Adrian reflected on the SCROCCS 2024 program and stated that it gave him the ability to gain mentorship and valuable advice. He felt accepted and wanted in the lab, and is definitely open to considering graduate school in the future.
Lucius was a student at Pierce College. During summer 2024, he worked with two PhD student mentors Chris and Helen to synthesize gold nanorods and control their structure and self-assembly.
Randon was a student at North Seattle Community College. During summer 2024, he worked with his PhD student mentor Haoxian to establish first principle experimentation on a highthroughput method of characterizing LysR type transcriptional regulators (LTTRs).
Randon reflected on the SCROCCS 2024 program and stated that it gave him the opportunity to be exposed to research and graduate school. It gave him the ability to join a lab to continue working with once he transferred to UW and ease the transition by already having UW connections and resources.
Advice from the SCROCCS 2024 Cohort
Befriend the SCROCCS group but also look to make friends outside of SCROCCS once you're on campus!
Ask all the questions! Don't be shy or ashamed about not knowing something. Your PI and mentor don't expect you to know everything by they appreciate curiosity.
Take advantage of making connections with members of the lab.
SCROCCS is great because it gives you a chance to see what research and graduate school is like.
