Bugling Merit Badge Counselors have the opportunity to develop Scouts into proficient Buglers. Using the EDGE method is often a good approach.
Scout Buglers have varying levels of proficiency. Each Scout may be placed into one of the following groups based upon the level of expertise using a sound-off for the call expectations below. If a Scout Bugler can sound a bugle call so that their Troop can understand the call to take action on what they heard, the Scout Bugler should be considered proficient in sounding the respective call. There may be a higher expectation for Taps and To The Color.
Beginner Bugler - Scout has not mastered any of the 15 bugle calls and has started the Bugling Merit Badge.
Intermediate Bugler - Scout is proficient to perform Taps, Reveille and Assembly and is progressing through the Bugling Merit Badge.
Advanced Bugler - Scout is proficient in all 15 bugle calls and has completed the Bugling Merit Badge which includes serving as Troop Bugler for 3 months. These Scout Buglers are ready at anytime for public performance of any requested Troop Bugler duty.
