Ann Arbor Troop 5 facilitates youth leadership to promote physical fitness, emergency preparedness, good citizenship, and STEM skills. We do this through skills workshops, community service, weekend campouts, summer camp, and yearly high adventure trips.
Troop 5 camps out one weekend every month. Recent trips include: rock climbing, caving, bicycling, skiing, target shooting and multi-day canoe and backpacking trips.
To learn more, visit us online or come to a meeting. We meet Tuesday nights at Calvary United Methodist Church.

What is the BSA Popcorn Sale?
The popcorn sale is a Troop development program. When Scouts "sell" popcorn, they are doing community outreach, recruiting new members, and practicing scouting values of honesty, integrity, and self-reliance, while also raising funds for the troop. Essentially, selling popcorn is a way to build support in the community and to build character in individual Scouts.
What is Trail's End?
Trails' End is a brand of snack foods exclusive to BSA of the United States and Canada. Trail's End products are produced by the Weaver Company, a family-owned corporation in the United States.
What is in the popcorn?
Trail's End posts nutritional information for their products. Visit: https://www.trails-end.com/nutritional-facts
Can I support Troop without ordering popcorn?
Yes! Consider a "military donation." The Troop and the Scout still receive financial support but Trail's end will send the popcorn to members of the military and their families. Trail's end will also send you a receipt for tax purposes.
To make a direct financial donation or to support Troop 5G in other ways, please contact our Scoutmaster: KDixon.T5 [at] hotmail.com
How does my purchase help scouts?
Your purchase funds exciting wilderness adventures. But it does so much more! When you order popcorn from a BSA Scout you enable that child to develop new skills related to self-reliance, physical fitness, emergency preparedness, leadership, STEM, and resource conservation. You also help qualify your Scout to receive a Trails End scholarship. When you purchase from Troop 5 you do all of this PLUS you support an inclusive community of young leaders.
How does my purchase help my community?
BSA Troops participate in hundreds of hours of community service annually. All BSA Scouts participate in community service projects. They are also trained in emergency preparedness skills, STEM, and environmental resource management. This directly benefits the local community while also fostering good citizenship among the individual Scouts.
How are Trails End prices set? Where does the money go?
Essentially, selling popcorn is a way for BSA Scouts to solicit donations. The purchase price of Trails End products covers the cost to produce them, which is about 25-27%. The rest of what a customer pays goes directly to local Scouting.
Online prices are higher because they include shipping costs. Online orders also include a larger donation. When you purchase online, more of the money you pay goes directly to the Scouts.
73-75% of the price you pay for a Trails End product goes directly to local Scouting. This amount is shared between the individual Scout, their Troop, and the local Council that administers that Troop. These funds supplement and, in some cases, pay for individual dues. Troops use funds to buy gear, purchase supplies, and provide scholarships for Scouts to participate in skills trainings, go on campouts, and attend summer camp.
Are purchases tax deductible?
According to BSA and Trail's End, 73-75% of the purchase price of your order represents a charitable donation. 100% of the price of a “Military Donation” is tax-deductible.
Trails' End provides receipts via email. Online orders automatically receives receipts. Your selling Scout can also provide you with a receipt upon request. Be sure to ask them! You will need to give them your contact information at the time of the sale.
