SC INBRE is excited to announce that registration and abstract submissions* are now open for our 17th Annual Science Symposium to be held on Saturday, February 21 at the Russell House University Union on the USC Columbia campus. (*see Important Notice about registrations/submissions in the FAQs panel)
SC INBRE-funded faculty and students will give talks on their research. Researchers at all academic levels who have received funding from SC INBRE in the past year can participate in our poster sessions. There will also be an Exhibit Hall and plenty of networking opportunities. We are offering the opportunity for student abstract submitters to give a 3-Minute Madness flash talk (3 minutes, 1 slide, 0 questions).
NEW FOR 2026: The addition of Core Consultations. Expanding upon our general Exhibit Halls during the two poster sessions, several Cores will be offering free one-on-one, 20-minute consultations with their representative(s) during either the morning or afternoon research talks. A sign-up sheet will be released soon for those who are interested in taking advantage of this opportunity.
NEW FOR 2026: In addition to the 3-Minute Madness Student Flash Talks (10 open slots available), in the afternoon after Poster Session #2 (even number posters) we will be doing six 30-minute themed sessions instead of presenting talks separated out by our funding mechanisms (Research Projects, Pilot Projects, Student Research Projects). These will be done concurrently with three in the Theatre and three in the Ballroom. They will be arranged by either the six poster/abstract judging categories or by topics.
When you fill out the abstract submission form this year, you will find that we are now asking for three keywords which will allow us to see the six most popular topics for the sessions. Each session will be comprised of three talks each – a mixture of faculty and students. There are up to 12 of our FY24-25 grant recipients who will be doing presentations this year scattered in the sessions. There are a total of 18 afternoon session slots. We will fill the remaining session slots from the abstracts submitted. If you have received SC INBRE funding in the past year and were not a direct grant recipient (for example, you received SC INBRE-provided institutional funds, you were a student funded by one of our grant recipients, etc.) and you would like to be considered for a talk, please make sure you complete that box on the abstract/registration form.
Anyone from our 16 network institutions who have received our funding and participated in our programs. Members of the public can also attend. This is our chance to showcase the great work produced by SC INBRE! Families and lab members of student presenters are encouraged to register to attend!
Nope! Our annual Science Symposium is free to register, free to attend and we include free food/beverages and free parking!
Registration will close February 6. Food and beverages are provided to registered attendees. Day-of walk-ins are strongly discouraged.

PARKING
Free parking is available in the Bull Street Garage adjacent to the Russell House. (Bringing a bus or shuttle, please contact us to arrange special parking!)
3-MINUTE MADNESS
These are 3, 1, 0... 3-minute talks and will consist of just 1 slide with 0 questions. They are held before the first poster session allowing student presenters both the opportunity to do a quick podium presentation at a statewide meeting, and also allowing them to mention their poster number for attendees to come ask questions later. (PS. Data shows that Flash Talk presenters are often the winner in their poster category so, students, do consider checking the box on the abstract submissions part of the form!)
WHO CAN SUBMIT A POSTER
Anyone who has received funding from SC INBRE (RP, PP, institutional funds, etc.) in the last year. NOTE: only student posters (high school, undergrad, grad, and postdoc) will be judged (PS. we need judges — you can volunteer via the registration form). Abstracts are due January 23. No late abstracts will be accepted.
